Thank you Mr. Ken Haga, Editor and Publisher of Guam Life, a tri-annual publication by U.S. Explore and Study Inc that provides cultural and historical information to Guam’s visitors in Japanese and English. This colorful, informative publication is available free in hotel lobbies, car rental agencies and other visitor locations. Vol. 11 features in-depth stories about 4 of Guam’s heroes of the recent and ancient past, through historic research and interviews with close relatives.
I was lucky to receive a copy delivered personally to my Historic Inalahan office mailbox because I supplied interviews I had collected about Father Jesus Baza Duenas with many Inalahan people who knew him personally. Some of these people have passed on, leaving their stories in my archive and now published in Guam Life. I recommend that all our Che’lus in Guam pick up a copy and learn more about the lives of our heroes. This publication provides information to our Japanese visitors about our history and culture, including their own history of Japanese occupation of Guam. The stories are treated with sensitivity by a Japanese publisher who has lived in Guam and appreciated our culture for many years.
The MAP OF HISTORIC INALAHAN provided on pages 106 and 107 gives a quick overview of each significant historic building and is a perfect compliment for those taking our Painted History Walk. Thank you, Haga-san!
