I dabbled in clay in high school art classes and always loved it. Classes weren’t available at College of Guam when I attended, so I missed out on developing artistically along those lines. Oh well, it’s never too late – so I’m going to learn along with anyone else who wants to join us at the “Obing” house workshop and gallery for the next several Saturdays. We will start at 10 am. Our trial run with Historic Inalahan EYP team members Jessica, Angie and two youth members was a lot of fun.
The theme was “Coffee Mug Designs for Coco-Jo’s Cookie Bakery. They want to select a design that can be used to gift-package their delicious cookies.
To keep us in the right frame of mind, Denise and Al Selk supplied samples of their Coco-Jo Cookie line, and we munched while we worked.
The slab designs lended themselves to decorative motifs on the overlapping wrap of the mug. Check out some of our designs!
I’ve already got ideas on how to do a batik wax resist when we get to the color glazing….
Classes are free to our Inalahan EYP youth members (Engaging Youth in Culture and Community Project of Historic Inalahan Foundation). Families, youths, and even manamko’ are invited to come play with clay for just the cost of materials and electricity to fire the finished pieces.
