Dustin and Gina commissioned Judy Flores to capture the scene of their early romance around Alupang Cove on Agana Bay. Read about the adventure!
Judy writes:
Hi Dustin and Gina,
I’ve started on your painting and have been photographing each step. I’m working on the second layer of colors now. I transferred the sketch to the 30″ x 40″ silk by drawing free-hand with a tool called a tjanting. It allows the melted wax to flow from a small spout and creates the white lines. I’ve photographed that, but it might be hard to see because of the translucent wax against the white silk. After I put in a blue wash and painted the flowers with pinks and reds, you can see the design emerge in the second photo. There will be about six more color applications. The dyes are allowed to dry between applications, then I wax the areas that I want to remain that color.
This is the progress of the batik today
For comparison, since our last post #mce_temp_url#, the client and artist agreed on a perspective based on the photo shown here.
